FRANKFORT – State Senator Michael E. Hastings announced that the 19th District is set to receive over $1 million in state grants for three local park districts.
“Our park districts have an everlasting positive impact on our communities,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort). “These grants will help support our park districts in continuing their work, promoting a greater sense of community and providing our families with spaces to promote healthy habits.”
The Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grants, administered through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, help communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. Nearly $55 million in state grants are being awarded for 111 local park projects throughout Illinois to help communities acquire land and develop recreational opportunities.
The following park districts in the 19th Senate District received funding through this round of OSLAD grants:
- Frankfort Square Park District - $600,000
- Olympia Fields Park District- $270,600 (Pictured)
- Village of Richton Park - $200,000
Since its establishment 38 years ago, OSLAD has awarded nearly $585 million for park projects throughout Illinois.
“Empowering our communities begins with investing in our environment,” said Hastings. “By securing this funding, we’re preserving nature and ensuring our residents have access to opportunities that promote recreation and well-being.”
