FRANKFORT – State Senator Michael E. Hastings is inviting community members to provide feedback on the conceptual design ideas for the renovation of Fort Frankfort playground.
“This project is more than upgrading the structure of Fort Frankfort,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort). “It’s a complete renovation that shows a commitment to the vitality of our community. The revamped space will serve as a practical and essential hub where families can gather for generations to come.”
Fort Frankfort playground was established in late 1999 with the help of community members and over 100 volunteers. The almost 25-year-old playground has been in need of updating, but limited funding has been available for capital projects. In 2023, Senator Hastings secured $1.75 million in state funding for the renovation. The funding will allow the park to become an inclusive playground, eliminating physical and social barriers and creating an equitable play space for all.
“The voices of our residents should be the ones shaping our communities,” said Hastings. “Building a playground is a community effort — as the original Fort Frankfort can attest. I encourage all residents to offer input on the design ideas to ensure this renovation reflects the heart of our neighborhood.”
Construction of the new playground is anticipated to take place at the end of the summer. Residents are encouraged to offer input on designs through the survey on the Frankfort Park District’s website.
